Name:1984
Author: George Orwell
ISBN:9780451524935 / not-applicable
Summary:
Its a dystopian novel about the life of an ordinary man called Winston Smith in a " massive Oligarchial Collectivist society". It cronicles his rebillion against this highly authoritarian world.
My opinion:
The book among other things, explains and analyses fundamental concepts of freedom, power, control and justice at a whole new level.
Although this book is timeless, and although the world order it describes is more of a communist-centrist dictatorship, it is more relevent today's capital driven times than it ever was given the fact that we as we are steadily moving towards increasingly undemocratic, ruthless, unjust and greed-oriented systems.
The popular concepts of "Big Brother","thought crime",etc were introduced in this book.
How I got it:
Heard about it from friends while at school. Then decided to read it.
Will I buy it for my collection:
Intend to buy it someday
